Beautiful flowers in a vase for a longer time...

Probably each of us enjoys a view of beautiful blooming flowers on the plot: lilies, dahlias, asters, tulips ... When we cut them, they will be a substitute of the beauty of our garden transferred to the house. They are a symbol of impermanence, it is said that they drink the last drop of water from vase. However, with "grandma's ways" we can extend their life to decorate our tables and gray angles of our homes as long as possible, or keep their summery beautiful for long months in dried, multi-coloured compositions.

When from seeds will grow beautiful flowers , we want them not only to attract the eye in the garden, but also in a vase. Here are several advices how to prolong their life:

> The ends of the shoots we cut obliquely (it's not recommended to crush the stems or scrap skins), so that the surface collecting water will be as large as possible. Hard ends of stems of roses and lilacs we split the crosswise with a sharp knife, preferably under water.

  >Change the water daily - use boiled water (while cooking precipitated calcium salts), or stagnant water (evaporate harmful to flowers chlorine) vase we wash detergent and rinse thoroughly. If we don't do this the water will get murky, smelly and shoots will begin to rot. This is because of bacteria growing in water environment , but also in plant tissues, which makes it difficult to lead the water in the plant.

  > Flower stems should not be immersed in water deeper than 3-5 cm. Only flowers that need a lot of water, such as rose, we pour more water.

  >To extend the life of flowers we can dissolve in water special nutrient to prevent the growth of microorganisms, such as Chrystal, during heat we can throw a few cubes of ice to the water especially for irises.

  >For the recovery of firmness, it's good to dip fading bouquet to the depth of heads in cool water.

  >Vase we set away from hot radiators, direct sunlight and also apples and bananas, because fruits emit ethylene gas - to which some species of flowers are sensitive, eg snapdragons, lilies and carnations. From bouquet we remove dead flowers, which also emit the gas. You should also know that there is a low concentration of ethylene in the air, and the additional sources are car exhaust and cigarette smoke. Wilting of flowers are also associated with the process of respiration, in which plants consume the sugar contained in the tissues.

  >Such flowers like irises, poppies, daffodils and peonies require cutting in the closed bud stage, other: marigolds, sunflowers, chrysanthemums should be cut in full bloom.

  >A tiny pinch of sugar or honey added to the water is a good nutrient for most flowers. Acidification of water reduces putrefactive bacteria development. Here we can use an aspirin or a few crystals of citric acid. A similar effect will give inserting a copper coin or brass plate into the water

  >The ends of stems of summer flowers which we cut in the garden put for a few seconds into hot water, then cool them for example: in the basement.

  >Don't place the flowers in direct sunlight.

  >The water in the metal vessels stays fresh for longer.

  >In hot premises bouquets have to be often sprinkle or haze (some plants , such as camellias, tulips, carnations do not like to be sprayed).

  >It is worth to remember that the stability of the flowers are characteristic for the species. That's why poppies fade after a few hours while the orchids stand in a vase up to 5 weeks.

Unlike cut flowers, dried are a symbol of stability , thanks to a simple treatment we can preserve with them our memories for long months.

To stop a little bit of summer colours and to stop a summer memory at least until next spring we can dry flowers or ears of grain harvested in our gardens or in the meadow. Some people believe that flowers given to someone shouldn't be dryed because it can dry relationship between people. Others claim that it's the best decoration of our homes in the winter. After all, already in ancient times they attracted the eye of the most important people in the country. Along with dried grasses, feathers, ornamental leaves of trees, often sprinkled with fabulous fragrance perfume, created memorable compositions. There are many methods of drying flowers, and their selection is often dependent on the species we have. Here are some of the secrets of drying, so that our driers will sparkle with a summer colour palette, as the time has stopped for them. There are many methods of drying flowers, and their selection is often dependent on the species we have. Below we put some of the secrets of drying, which will make our driers sparkle with summer colours:

  1.   Keep in mind the basic principle that plants intended for drier we cut at noon in sunny weather.

  2.   Helichrysum we collect when tubular flowers are still completely covered, sea lavender when flowers located at the highest level in the ear are dyeing, wild teasel which we cut fruits in various stages of maturity in order to obtain material of varying colour, physalis we cut when all the "lanterns" are stained.

  3.   Keep in mind that dried flowers should stand in well-ventilated places, not to sunny because they can fade.

  4.   Clean the stems from leaves, hang in small bunches in a well-ventilated shady place every 15-20 cm.

  5. Herb drying method - one of the most popular methods of drying flower bouquets and herbs that hang upside down.

  6.   Roses we hang with buds upside down when they are still look good, on the other hand hydrangeas we leave in a vase with a little water.

  7.   Large heads of roses, globe thistles and garlic we dry it in a vertical position and we should hammer stems into a cardboard boxes so that the buds will based on their bottom.

  8.   Another method of drying, especially the small delicate flowers and leaves is to put them in a pre-dried in the oven sand. For this purpose we use a commercially available substances with high hygroscopic properties, such as borax and silica gel .

  9.   When drier get dirty, dust we blowing with a hair dryer, a clean bouquet we carefully spray with a special preparation in the spray to refresh dry flowers or the most ordinary hair spray.

  10.  The easiest way to arrange them is in a special floristic sponge - beige colour

  11.   If our dry bouquet get dusty over the winter, we should blow out the dust with hair dryer, and then spray the bouquet lightly with water. When it will drie-up we can also use a special spray for dry bouquets, which refreshes color and has anti-static effect.

Especially to dried compositions we propose: indispensable roses, larkspur, yarrow, echinops, edelweiss, sea lavender, nigella oriental, candlestick, pampas grass, stems of some trees and shrubs. The floristic market offers many exotic fruit driers, flowers, branches and leaves from the remotest parts of the world.
